Nominate an Outstanding Young Farmer for 2015
Ontario’s Outstanding Young Farmers Program (OYF) is designed to recognize farmers and farm couples who exemplify excellence in their profession. Anyone can nominate a young farmer/farm couple as long as they meet the program eligibility requirements: must be between ages of 18-39, must be farm operators and must derive a minimum of two-thirds of their income from farming. Nominations for the 2015 Award are due by December 15, 2014 and are available at www.oyfontario.ca/nominations.
Primary Care Outreach to Seniors
The Primary Care Outreach to Seniors program works in collaboration with health professionals and other agencies to reduce isolation and support high risk seniors (aged 65 and above) living at home. The program is offered at no cost to the client, and is available in English, French and a variety of other languages. Through a shared care approach, a registered nurse and community health worker are able to visit vulnerable seniors in their homes, including those in rural Ottawa, to provide support with their care and link them to appropriate community resources to assist them with their various needs, enabling seniors to maintain their health and independence. Referrals are accepted from any source for eligible seniors who may be isolated and at risk of hospitalization. To inquire about this program, please call 1-844-726-5115 or visit http://www.pqchc.com/seniors/seniors-outreach/.
Congratulations to Terry Kelly
On November 5, I had the pleasure of attending a surprise retirement party for Terry Kelly. After 42 years of dedicated service to the Ottawa Fire Services as a rural firefighter, Terry decided to hang up his fire gear. On behalf of the residents of Ward 5, I want to thank Terry for all that he has done for West Carleton-March and for his service to Ottawa Fire Services. I wish him all the best in the coming years.
