Transportation choices for seniors in Ward 5

The Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre and the Council on Aging have organized this event for seniors in Ward 5. It's being held at the Galetta Community Centre on Friday, April 24. A free lunch will be offered at 11:30am followed by presentations at 12:30pm. Registration is required by emailing vbrousseau@eorc-creo.ca or by calling 613-741-6025 x328. If assistance is needed with transportation, please indicate this when registering.

Spring into Art III

The West Carleton Arts Society is hosting Spring into Art III on Saturday, April 11 from 8:45am to 4pm at the Carp Agricultural Hall, 3790 Carp Road. This event will include a catered lunch and five guest speakers. Seating is limited and the cost is $70. Registration can be done online at www.westcarletonartssociety.ca.

Parenting in Ottawa - new online initiative

Ottawa Public Health launched a new interactive web portal to help parents access relevant, reliable and local parenting information online. The ParentingInOttawa.com portal is designed to cover everything from planning for a family to getting through the teenage years. Topics covered include:

  • pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • the growth and development
  • mental health
  • healthy eating
  • immunization
  • talking to children and teens about alcohol, tobacco and drugs
  • talking to children and teens about puberty and sexuality
  • community services for your family

Parenting in Ottawa provides access to credible, evidence-based information in easy-to-navigate formats. Parents and families will learn about local community resources and events and will be able to connect virtually with experts from various organizations. Furthermore, parents will also have access to the recently launched and very popular Parenting in Ottawa Facebook page, where parents can interact live with other parents and with a Public Health Nurse weekdays from 8am to 3pm.

Farm Grant Program

The City’s Farm Grant Program provides financial relief to working farmers. It assists eligible farm property owners by allowing the June final tax instalment to be paid in December. Details on qualifying requirements are outlined on ottawa.ca. Questions can also be directed to the City’s Revenue Branch Monday to Friday, 8am-4:30pm at 613-580-2444.
