Carleton Street renamed Jack Lougheed Way
On October 17, the former Carleton Street in Fitzroy Harbour was officially renamed Jack Lougheed Way. I couldn't think of a more appropriate person to be honoured with this renaming. Jack Lougheed has a long history of service in the Fitzroy Harbour community. As a community mentor and pastoral care leader, Jack dedicates much of his time to visiting with seniors experiencing sickness or failing health. Congratulations to Jack!
Carp Farmers' Market
The final Carp Farmers' Market of the season is Saturday, October 29. It will be a Kids' Club Halloween Spooktacular. There will be a haunted barn and costume contest (taking place at 11am). Plus, all who visit in their costumes will be able to trick-or-treat from booth to booth. The Market is open from 8am-1pm. (FYI, Carp Farmers' Market will hold their annual Christmas Market on December 2, 3pm-8pm, and December 3, 8am-2pm.)
Snow Go & Snow Go Assist programs
The City of Ottawa provides the Snow Go Program. It helps seniors and persons with disabilities find reliable contractors and/or individuals to clear snow from their private driveways/walkways. Once matched up with snow removal help, residents are responsible for making payments directly to the individual or contractor. Seniors and persons with disabilities can also apply to the Snow Go Assist Program. It provides financial assistance for a portion of their snow removal costs for eligible participants. For more information about any of these services visit or call 3-1-1 (TTY: 613-580-2401).
Recruitment of outdoor rink operators and volunteers for the 2016-2017 season
The city is looking for community members to operate or support neighbourhood outdoor rinks. Grants are available to assist you in this endeavour. For more information or if you are interested in becoming a community outdoor rink operator or volunteer, contact the Seasonal Recreation Office at 613-580-2590 or
Have a safe and fun-filled Halloween!
There are a lot of Halloween events happening in West Carleton-March in the coming few days. I’ve listed some on under the “Ward Events” section.
Wishing everyone a safe and fun-filled Halloween night. For those travelling on our roads, please remember to be very cautious of the excited and preoccupied ghosts and goblins roaming the streets. Drive slowly and be alert!
