Important information: Hydro One Ombudsman

Recently I hosted Hydro One Ombudsman Fiona Crean at a public meeting, where residents posed questions to her directly regarding Hydro One. For residents unable to attend the meeting, below is some information for reference in the event assistance is need from the Ombudsman’s office in the future.

The Hydro One Ombudsman is an independent investigator who reviews and resolves complaints from the company’s customers. Ms. Crean’s office investigates complaints about unfairness in the delivery of services. The Ombudsman cannot investigate decisions made by government bodies (the setting of electricity rates, for example) or the decisions to change the ownership structure of Hydro One.

If you have a customer service complaint or a concern with your bill the first step is to raise it directly with Hydro One at 1-888-664-9376 or CustomerCommunications@HydroOne.com. If the issue did not get resolved, then contact the Ombudsman’s office. There are several ways to file your complaint:

•    Online complaint form at HydroOneOmbudsman.com
•    Call 1-844-608-8756
•    Fax 1-416-345-6129
•    Email Ombudsman@HydroOne.com

When filing your complaint, make sure to include as much information as possible including your name, address and all relevant details and history.

Fraud Prevention

It’s been mentioned to me a few times recently that residents are receiving suspicious phone calls, emails and even visits at their door from questionable companies selling services, charitable organizations asking for money, and even Revenue Canada demanding payment of taxes. The most important thing to remember is to never give out personal information or provide money to anyone until it’s been verified that the person/company you’re dealing with is legitimate.

Please visit ottawapolice.ca for a list of common scams and tips on how to protect yourself. If you feel you’ve be a target of a scam contact the Ottawa Police to file a report. They do not take reports via email so you must call 613-236-1222 ext 7300 or visit any police station.
