Commemorative park naming: Doug Rivington Park

On August 26 the City of Ottawa honoured Doug Rivington with naming a park in his honour. The newly named Doug Rivington Park is located at 701 Meadowridge Circle.

Mr. Rivington was born and raised in Carp and has served his community in many capacities over the years. He and his wife Helen were instrumental in assisting with the development of a recreational soccer field on Langstaff Drive. Doug has also dedicated many years to being Chairman of the local school board and Warden at St. James Church. In addition, Mr. Rivington helped many local businesses and has provided employment to a number of tradesmen. Doug has also provided support to several local organizations including the Carp Fair, Curling Club of Huntley, West Carleton Arena, Huntley Centennial School and the West Carleton Library. As well, his gracious labour to the Carp Splash Pad and the conversion of the Parish of Huntley Hall to being wheelchair accessible are just some examples of his worthiness of this commemoration.

My sincere congratulations to Doug Rivington. I couldn’t think of a more deserving individual to be bestowed this honour.

History of Carp Storytelling and Bus Tour

The Anglican Parish of Huntley is offering a free bus tour on Saturday, September 10 for families throughout the Carp community as part of its Sharing Wisdom Across the Ages program. The tour includes lunch and an optional admission to the Diefenbunker. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about Carp from the seniors who have been part of the community for many years. The tour will begin at 10am and will highlight several historical stories and will be followed by a free lunch. There are only a limited number of tickets and they are going fast, so please register right away at For more information, email or call 613-839-3195.

School resuming soon – watch out for kids

With children heading back to school, I would like remind drivers to slow down on our roads and be cautious around school buses and in school zones. Wishing all students good luck this school year!
