Continued suspension of application fees for demolition permits & building applications for flood affected residents

At the City Council meeting held on September 11, Council approved a motion to continue suspending application fees for demolition and building permits for residents affected by spring flooding. This will give residents more time to repair and rebuild without having to worry about the fees or obtaining minor variances. Staff will report to the Planning Committee in October with proposed changes to the Zoning By-law that could help residents in certain flood-affected areas to rebuild in future years without the need for minor variances.

Garbage & recycling collection concerns

The City is aware of delays to curbside collection in West Carleton and other west-end neighbourhoods. We are working to rectify the situation as soon as possible. Below are ways to report missed collection:

  • Use this link: This link takes you directly to a page where you can report your missed pick up. Your submitted request will go to city staff for their action.

  • Call 3-1-1. (Please note, during peak times callers may experience wait times before speaking with an agent).

  • Contact me directly at 613-580-2475 or

Once you’ve reported your missed collection, please make sure to leave your containers at the curbside so that it can be collected.

At the City Council meeting on September 11, City Council discussed this issue and it was agreed that Waste Management would be invited to attend the next meeting of the Standing Committee on Environmental Protection, Water & Waste Management, to answer questions and provide information relating to collection delays. The meeting is taking place on September 17, at City Hall. If Waste Management representatives agree to attend, I will be there to listen in and ask questions.
